Gas Leak Repair

Gas Leak Detection & Repair in National City

If you smell gas near an appliance: leave the house, do not touch switches, and call from a distance. Once you and your family are safe, we handle the detection and repair. C-36 licensed, SDG&E-compliant, and always safety-first.

Call us if you notice…

  • A rotten-egg smell near a stove, water heater, dryer, or furnace
  • A hissing sound at a gas fitting
  • Dead grass or plants in a line above a buried gas pipe
  • Higher-than-normal gas bill with no usage change
  • Pilot lights that keep going out

How the job goes

  1. 1

    Safety first

If you smell gas, evacuate. Do not turn on or off any electrical switches. Do not use your phone inside the house. Call SDG&E at 1-800-411-7343 for a gas emergency, then call us for repair.

  2. 2

    Combustible gas detection

We use handheld combustible gas locators to trace the leak to the exact fitting. Soap bubble test confirms.

  3. 3

    Pressure test the system

A 15 PSI air test on the whole gas line to identify any secondary leaks. Held for the code-required duration.

  4. 4

    Repair or replace

A single fitting leak: replace the fitting. A corroded run: replace the section. A degraded whole-house line: full re-pipe of the gas system. All work permitted with the city.

When you smell gas — the drill

  1. Get everyone out of the house — pets included.
  2. Do NOT turn any switches on or off. Sparks can ignite gas at levels well below what your nose detects.
  3. Do NOT use your phone or open the garage door remote inside.
  4. Once outside, call SDG&E at 1-800-411-7343 for the gas emergency line.
  5. Then call us to schedule the repair the moment SDG&E clears the site.

If SDG&E responds and locks out your service, no gas appliance in the house will work until a licensed plumber repairs the leak and the system passes a pressure test.

Common gas leak sources in South Bay homes

Corroded black iron pipe. Homes 40+ years old often have surface-corroded black iron in garages and exterior locations. Coastal humidity (Imperial Beach, Coronado, western National City) accelerates it.

Failed CSST connections. Corrugated stainless steel tubing was widely installed from the 1990s and depends on properly torqued fittings. Loose or over-torqued fittings leak.

Damaged flex connectors. Rigid metal or braided-flex connectors to gas appliances become brittle with age and can crack when the appliance is moved.

Buried line failures. Underground gas runs from the meter to detached buildings (ADUs, workshops, pool heaters) can corrode. Symptoms above: dead grass in a straight line, high gas bills.

Old fittings that never got tightened. Screwed steel unions on stove connections, dryer connections, water heater flex lines. Common finding on a pressure test.

What a proper gas line repair includes

  • Combustible gas locator survey of the whole system
  • Soap-bubble confirmation at each identified fitting
  • Repair or replacement with matching materials to code
  • Full-system pressure test at 15 PSI held for 15+ minutes
  • Permit pulled with City of National City (or applicable jurisdiction)
  • Inspector sign-off before invoice
  • SDG&E re-lite of all appliances if service was interrupted

What we do not do

We do not "just tighten it and call it good." Every gas repair gets a pressure test. Every pressure test gets documented. Every permit gets pulled. Cutting corners on gas work is how houses catch fire.

Our shop is at 1010 W 19th St, three minutes from I-5 and five minutes from National City Blvd. All gas work is performed by C-36 licensed plumbers with California gas fitting endorsement. Insurance and warranty on file. Call (831) 290-4327 and a live dispatcher will confirm a real ETA before you hang up — no call center runaround, no "we'll get back to you."

What affects the price

We do not post fake "starting at" prices. Every job is quoted flat-rate on-site. Here is what moves the number up or down:

  • Number and location of leaks
  • Whether the run is exposed, in a wall, or buried
  • Pipe material (black iron vs. CSST vs. copper)
  • Whether SDG&E lockout has been triggered (adds re-inspection step)
  • Permit and inspection fees
